Thanks to our supportive Latino media for helping promote our book! Cosmo for Latinas included us in their fall fun guide, and Latino Magazine published an excerpt from Stephanie Elizondo Griest’s story in the book.
Eleven Latinas (including our Editor-in-Chief Michelle!) explain the importance of comadres in a series of essays about their beloved homies. And no, none are figments of their imaginations.
I discovered The Odyssey three days after the love of my life – a Che Guevara look-alike from Colombia – reached inside my chest, yanked out my heart, and incinerated it. I’m not being dramatic. The man nearly ruined me – twice! The first time, when we were still in college, he tried to persuade me not to study abroad in Moscow, though I’d been planning to do so for four years. Stay here, and I’ll slip a ruby ring on your finger. And I would have, too, if he hadn’t dumped me first. The second time, two years later, he lured me away from traveling around Asia after my postgrad fellowship ended in Beijing.
