New York, NY—Las Comadres & Friends National Latino Book Club stands in solidarity with Black and Afro Latinx Communities. Black Lives Matter. We condemn the murders of too many of our black brothers and sisters at the hands of police brutality.
Las Comadres and Friends National Latino Book Club’s mission has always been to connect readers all over the world through literature. We are committed to establishing a connection with readers to educate and motivate them, and to break down racial discrimination in publishing. We believe our 2020 Summer Reading List does just that.
“At a time when our lives are upside down, and we are quarantined in our cocoons,” says Nora De Hoyos Comstock, Founder of Las Comadres Para Las Americas, “reading books is a great way to expand our horizons and learn new things. Now more than ever, our authors need our support and encouragement to preserve and celebrate our Latinidad.”
For 2020, Las Comadres & Friends National Latino Book Club has selected 20 books that will thrill, entertain and inspire readers of all ages. Our classic selection, Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez, is very apropos for this year. We encourage everyone to add our Summer Reading List to their TBR piles, give copies to family and friends, borrow copies from neighborhood libraries, and enjoy Reading Latino Lit.

Las Comadres & Friends National Latino Book Club started in 2007 in partnership with the Association of American Publishers to promote reading of Latino authors. All books are in English, written by Latino authors. Membership is free and open to all readers. The Book Club is currently in 15 cities, with more cities to follow.
Each month, Las Comadres Book Club features a Book of the Month selection and one or two additional “Conversations with” books. At the end of the month, there is a teleconference and Live Interviews with the author(s). During the teleconference, the social media team has a Twitter Chat with comments and tidbits about the book, the author and insights gleaned from the conversation. Registration is open to all readers and is free.
